Six bid for election to IoR board

UK: Reflecting a resurgence in interest amongst members, the Institute of Refrigeration has attracted six nominations for two vacant positions on its board of trustees for 2020.

These include bids for election from past president John Ellis of Ellis Training Works, Birmingham Society of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning chair Paul Singh of ChillAir Training Academy, and former BRA vice-president John Skelton, the refrigeration manager at Marks & Spencer.

Also in the running are James Bailey, founder of Wheatlands Aire Valley Engineering (WAVE), the respected independent refrigeration and building services consultancy; Quentin Onyango, who spent 14 years as training consultant at the Grimsby Institute prior to his current role as QA engineering manager at Clade Engineering Services; and George Shepherd, a former IoR Student of the Year currently working for FJB Systems.

The board of trustees includes the IoR president, immediate past president, president-elect, six elected members and a treasurer. Board members take an active role in the work of the IoR by joining a committee, taking part in steering groups and representing the IoR at key industry meetings.

The board of trustees is responsible to the membership, company law and to the Charity Commission for its effective governance. It meets three times a year for a half-day at a meeting chaired by the president. Elected members normally serve for three years.

Voting will close at noon on Thursday 29 October.
