I bought an old beverage air 3 door reach in cooler. No model number I could find anywhere on the unit. Written on the inside it says that the system was charged with 409A back in 1999. Works fine after I replaced the thermostat but the compressor is very loud. According to my phone its 70 decibel. Recently it started making a louder noise at the end of cycles that I can only describe as a washing machine on spin cycle. Or a diesel engine idling. I bonked it with a wrench and the problem has gone away for now... But I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to replace it.
Can I change the system to 134A with a new compressor?
