New to refrigeration, I think my boss is full of it, seeking outside council.

So we changed out 2 evaps in a walk in cooler the other day. Today the customer called and said one of the coils is freezing. My boss told me today that the compressor "has bad valves" and that's why one of the evap coils is freezing. He also is telling me that once a coil ices up that the ice restricts the flow of refrigerant through the coil, which doesn't make sense to me.

I'm no expert in refrigeration yet but I've definitely seen my boss make mistakes in diagnosing problems and his explanation for why one of the evap coils is freezing isn't making sense to me.

Does that sound like a plausible explanation?
