Sight glass on R410a variable speed compressor heat pump?

I hope it's okay to ask this question here but I could not find any good results after searching for a bit.

Disclaimer: I am not a tech. I do have some experience with HVACs. I have installed a few 3-5 ton systems with all required permits and such. I also serviced small systems like house refrigerators and vehicles. Again, nothing too fancy but yes I do have most common tools like recovery machine, pump, and etc.

I am not trying to troubleshoot anything but instead trying to understand a hypothetical situation. Let's say you have a system with a variable speed compressor, modulating type. Take any. From Amana to Bosch. Let's say you have a sight glass after the dryer downstream(in cool mode) from the compressor. Now here is a question, this modulating system is turned on to heat pump mode and is running at 25% capacity. Would you expect any flashing or not? Let's say it's running at 100%? What about in cool mode and at 25%? Obviously you got a TXV on both ends.

My theory was that it should flash in heat mode, especially when running at lower capacity. I'm talking about a residential system with no head pressure control valve or anything. However I was looking at sight glass as the system fired up in heat mode and it flashed for a bit and stopped. I didn't catch the power level it was running at when it stopped but it was slowly increasing. Again, the system's Subcooling and Superheat are all in the norm and everything is working as expected. There are no issues that I'm trying to solve. I'm just trying to educate myself.
