If you look on the wall on the right side of the picture, you might see a line of pink. This store has 3 pumps and all of them are slowly leaking. I have never changed a seal. I was scared. Thankfully, we hired some new guy that used to work on giant chillers. He showed me how to do it. I ordered the parts. I told the company rep to send me all the parts I would need to do the job. So all he sent me was the ceramic seals and a big paperish gasket. Well, nothing on this job went right. The ball valve was kind of leaking by, hence the mess in the picture. I got that to stop. I didn't have a puller big enough to get the impeller off so we had to run and get one of those. The metric stainless steel bolt got stripped so we had to tap the threads and buy new bolts. Finally, the guy I was working with said to me "ya know, I usually replace the shaft sleeve when I do these jobs." Uhhh, what shaft sleeve? I only had the ceramic gasket ring dealy. I had no idea there was a sleeve that ran over the shaft. The guy said we might be able to get away with not replacing it. That was not the case. When we opened the ball valve after putting it back together, glycol started gysering out from around the new seal. I had to order new sleeves which were surprisingly expensive. So a week later we came back and took it all apart again. I was super nervous taking that sleeve off because I kept thinking "WHAT IF IT GETS STUCK OR THE NEW ONE WONT GO ON!" The guy told me how to heat up the sleeve and try and turn it off the shaft. It took some time but we managed to get it off and put the new one on. It was a very stressful job. It took two visits and probably a whole days work between those two visits just to get one pump done. We have two more to go. Hopefully those go much more smoothly. Happy to say the one is done now and not leaking though. It was a hell of an experience. [link] [comments] |

Well, it didn't exactly go smoothly but I experienced my first (and second) attempt at changing a glycol pump seal
