Would a fridge or freezer that pulls in outside air in winter work?

I know this may not be the sub for this, but where else can I ask such a specific (and handsome) audience? I see so many fridges and freezers set up against exterior walls and in winter I think about how they're sitting in a heated space, inches away from free, plentiful, freezing air that is not being used.

Would this work? Or would the cost of the hard/software to switch the intake on/off make the cost of such a unit prohibitive?
