Replacing capacitors

So the rule is not to replace a run capacitor with a capacitance more than 12% higher or something around that ballpark, but I'm not sure why that is. Voltage rating: same or higher... makes sense. But why is more capacitance bad? Has anyone here ever replaced a capacitor with one with a much higher value? Did you live to tell your tale?
