Bunn slushie sugar shaft replacement

Everytime I think i understand this machine, I swear they make it initially difficult to fix myself! I'm trying to access the springs inside the augar shaft and replace the shaft itself. I can't seem to get it to come apart. I do have the special Pin replacement tool by bunn, but unsure if that applicable here. Does anyone have any idea how to get into the sugar shaft to replace it?
