Hi
I was lucky and scored an old upright freezer on the norwegian equivalent of craigslist the other day. I want to use it to cool glycol for my fermenters. The glycol chiller has a bath of glycol, and a pump in the bath. When the fermenter (for beer) get's too hot, the pump activates and pumps glycol+water through the cooling coils in the fermenter till desired temperature is reached and it switches off. I need the glycol chiller to react quickly and be efficient enough to combat the hot water coming back into the bath.
I bent the coils of the upright freezer(they are between each drawer shelf) into the bath of glycol and it seems pretty effective now, but I would ultimately like to dismantle the freezer for parts and build a custom glycol chiller like what is described below:
I would use a camping cooler box (30 liter capacity). with copper coils running around the sides of it, connected to the compressor. That would maximize the surface area in contact with the glycol.
My question is: Is this something a refrigeration technician can help me with? If I make the coils ready, and show up with it - can he connect it to the compressor and fill it with refrigeration gas?
