I do supermarket refrigeration for Walmart. I've done it for 5 years. Been in the field for about 11 years total. Reason I was working at Walmart was because I didn't have to be on call. I got exposure to all the more technical stuff without the workload. Well, that ship has sailed. Walmart is switching to on call. Week long on calls with a fairly regular rotation. I feel like I might have to leave soon. I have heard that industrial has a pretty relaxed on call by comparison to supermarket work. I think i'd like to move to that. Is industrial as starved for techs as everyone else? Do I need to go to certification classes on my own or will most companies pay to get them? What's the work like? Do you have any recommendations for getting into industrial field?
