For starters just a little backstory. I've been in the field going on 9 years. I never went to tech school; I'm purely field trained with the exception of a few courses I took myself (Hydronics, ACCA certification). I started roughing in houses hanging duct, moved to installs, then to service, & now finally I own and operate my own company. I mainly work on residential equip, anything from waste oil to mini splits.
A local store owner has been having trouble with their 404a deli cooler & they asked me to take a look at it. The manual is far gone but I'll download it when I get the model and serial #. He said they replaced the top evap coil earlier this year for an ongoing leak but there is still another leak somewhere in the system.
I guess my questions are: Should I suck all of the gas out of it and just weigh back in factory charge with some dye and go from there? Would it be better for me to install a sight glass while I'm there to help me and the next guy in the future? Should I try to put sealant in the system?(I fucking hate doing that) Should I take the gas out and charge with nitro and chase the leak with BigBlu/seeing if I hear where it's leaking?
Any and all answers/questions are more than welcome. I'm sorry if this seems idiotic to most of you who do purely refrigeration for a living but I'm excited to start my low pressure ref journey. Thanks in advance everyone.
